Mass Torts

Mass torts are different from other personal injury lawsuits. They are civil actions with numerous plaintiffs or claimants involved against one or several corporations (generally). The suits may occur in State or Federal court. ‘Mass’ refers to the participation of many injured plaintiffs in tort litigation. When many parties are injured in a similar way by a product, the situation is usually deemed as a Mass Tort. The intent is to allow injured plaintiffs whose injuries occurred in a similar way to have their claims heard and tried concurrently to promote  efficiency and economies of scale.
